Brick by Brick – The New School Building in Niger is Slowly Rising

Fantastic news in Niamey, Niger: The construction of the four-classroom building with an integrated computer lab advances steadily at the Niamey School for the Deaf. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, the construction of the Middle School had to be postponed a few weeks, but luckily, the construction work resumed. The 2nd phase was successfully completed, and now the 3rd is starting. As you can see in the photos, the building is slowly taking shape. The completion date is planned for October 2020.

Once the new building opens its doors, the deaf and hearing-impaired children gain access to the specialized educational facilities they need to pass their middle school level successfully. Education determines the children’s lives, and often, the deaf and hearing-impaired community is left behind in having access to educational spaces. The school building gives many young men the opportunity to work; which is especially important in the difficult situation caused by Covid-19. A security guard monitors the construction site day and night to make sure that nothing happens.

Access to school changes children’s lives. That´s why it is important to get involved, support school projects, and to create a better future for children.
