Dominican Republic, Cabarete
According to the World Bank, in 2019, the Dominican Republic had a 21% poverty rate, where 41% of the population earned less than $10 USD per day. Currently, reports show that in 2022 the poverty rate has increased to almost 33%. The living conditions of Dominicans and Haitians living close to 3 Mariposas Montessori confirm that these findings are accurate. More than half of 3MM’s students live in poverty, but unfortunately, no one would ever know this unless you walked into the school’s classrooms.

3 Mariposas Montessori
To reduce electricity bills and benefit the environment, the local partner wants to install solar panels at the 3 Mariposas Montessori. Moreover, 3MM wants to set a concrete example for the students, staff, and parents to learn about solar power. Therefore, this project proposes to provide the school with solar panels, investors, batteries, installation, aluminum, and other materials used for the installation.
The provision of solar panels will benefit the students, who will learn how solar power works firsthand. Secondly, the school will benefit because they won’t have to pay high electricity bills anymore. Lastly, this project will show the community the importance of reducing carbon emissions.
