Dominican Republic, Cabarete
CONTEXT
According to the World Bank, in 2019, the Dominican Republic had a 21% poverty rate, where 41% of the population earned less than $10 USD per day. Currently, reports show that in 2022 the poverty rate has increased to almost 33%. The living conditions of Dominicans and Haitians living close to 3 Mariposas Montessori confirm that these findings are accurate. More than half of 3MM’s students live in poverty, but unfortunately, no one would ever know this unless you walked into the school’s classrooms.
