Peru 2, Nuevo Chimbote

Peru 2, Nuevo Chimbote

Chimbote, like the entire northern coastal area of Peru, is a city in a completely desert area. Often there is no drinking water or sewage service, there are no roads, and the houses are shacks made of mats, sticks, and wood. Those who are most affected by this situation are children and young people: the difficult economic situation of families does oftentimes not allow the students to study. Since 2017, a completely free Parish Educational Institution has been operating, providing free and quality education to the poorest children in the area. At the school, they receive all the supplies they need to attend their classes free of charge. Before returning home, they are also given breakfast, lunch, and a snack. The children are chosen from among the neediest and are often children who otherwise would not be able to study at all. Currently, there is a growing demand of primary school students but not enough furniture to equip the classrooms.

New Furniture for the Educational Institution “Virgen de las Gracias”

Don Bosco

To respond to the growing demand of primary school students that will be welcomed to the school next year, the local partner proposes to equip two classrooms by providing new folders and shelves, in which classroom materials can be stored. Moreover, the partner would like to provide tables and chairs for the school’s dining room as the current dining room furniture is only a temporary option.

The direct beneficiaries of this project are the students at the school. They will be able to continue receiving daily meals and store their materials in the classroom. In total, this will positively affect 95 students between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
