School Initiative

Over 200 million children worldwide have no access to education due to a lack of school infrastructure. This is highly problematic since education is the one tool that is directly related to a self-determined future and can lift children out of poverty. By constructing suitable school buildings and providing access to digital resources, the students get the chance to break the cycle of unmet potential and strengthen individual talents. If all adults completed secondary education, globally the number of poor people could be reduced by more than half.

Focus Areas

SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
We facilitate the construction of new schools. Our main focus is on addressing the specific needs of the communities and including experienced local partners in the process.
RENOVATION & EXTENSION
Profound education requires an appropriate learning environment for students. That’s why we renovate old and poorly equipped school buildings or even expand them by complementing new classrooms, playgrounds, or sanitary facilities.
IMPLEMENTATION OF EDUTECH
Technology is important not only to enrich education but also to support teachers. Implementing computer labs is an integral part of improving the curriculum to keep students on the cutting edge of technology.

Impact Objective

According to the UN, more than 617 million children worldwide are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. There are many reasons for this, but the effects are the same: low employability and an endless circle of illiteracy and poverty. We are responding to this educational deficit by providing children with access to high-quality schools, and in doing so, we aim to achieve the following:

APPROPRIATE SANITATION FACILITIES
Every school construction program also includes building gender-segregated sanitation facilities to promote health, eliminate diseases, and allow menstruating girls to attend school.

QUALITY OF THE TEACHERS
Teacher training is managed by our implementing partner. We find ways to improve the quality of education and knowledge through ICT programs and support teachers by providing technology, Internet access, and learning platforms.

NEW SCHOOLS
Building new schools, especially in rural areas, improves access to safe education for disadvantaged children by eliminating long and dangerous commutes.

IMPROVING SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE
Renovating and expanding existing schools and upgrading equipment increases the quality of education, creates a safe learning environment, and reduces dropout rates.

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT
Education is one of the most critical areas for women’s empowerment. We carefully consider the inclusion of girls in every new project. Educated girls contribute to the decline in mortality rates and population explosion, and improve socio-economic growth.

FIGHTING POVERTY AND CHILD LABOR
Our local partners use their resources, network, and experience to provide impoverished families with access to education for their children and increase resources for survival. Quality education leads to greater income equality, better employability, and lower hunger and mortality rates.

Our strategy follows the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals:

Frequently Asked Questions

We believe that schools are more than just a place for learning but offer a safe and welcoming environment where children can enjoy proper meals, have access to clean water, or have carefree interaction with their peers. Unfortunately millions of children have no access to education due to a lack of school buildings. That’s why providing educational infrastructure is so crucial as the cornerstone for creating a place of knowledge and growth for generations to come. We support this need project by project.

We work mainly with local, small partner organizations, as we believe that they can generate the most sustainable impact through their proximity to the communities. All potential partner organizations have to go through a precise, standardized process. We pay special attention to sustainability, experience in school construction, local proximity and the general project concept, such as the involvement of the community, parents, teachers etc.

The need for an improved school infrastructure is strong in many countries around the world. Our mission is that our projects reach highly disadvantaged children in the Global South. Therefore, we do not have a specific geographic focus. You can have a look at our project world map to see where we have been involved so far.

It´s important to us that you are involved in the process. We are making sure that you receive regular updates. These updates will be sent to you via email in the form of reports, photos, and videos. We are happy to assist you to get special content if needed.

In many countries, running costs for schools are not paid by the government until there is a school building. This is where we see our biggest impact. We mainly support public schools in order not to create any dependencies. The completed school building is therefore handed over to the municipality in a festive ceremony. We remain involved and monitor the progress.

In most countries, it is possible to visit the project or even attend the opening ceremony. Such visits are often very special experiences and we work closely with our local implementing partners to facilitate travels. It is crucial to respect our Child Protection Guidelines and be sensitive and respectful towards the local culture.
