You arrive at Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Settle in and rest before the programme begins.

Uganda Up Close

A day to experience Uganda beyond the headlines. Visit Kampala's leading tech hubs, meet local founders, and explore the city's markets and neighbourhoods. Uganda is one of the youngest countries in the world. In the evening, the group comes together over dinner to reflect and get acquainted before the main event.

Campus Demo Day

The main event. Our graduates present their AI and software projects on campus in Mukono. Lunch with students, a tour of the campus, the classrooms, the dormitories, and the women who live and learn here.

The Human Story

Meet women who have completed the programme and built careers and financial independence. In the evening, the group gathers at the Ndere Cultural Centre for a cultural show with traditional dance, food, and music from across Uganda.

Depending on your flight, there is still time to explore. Optional wildlife extensions begin from this day for those who wish to stay on.

Hotels in Kampala

We recommend staying in central Kampala. The campus in Mukono is approximately 60 minutes by road, we will organize transport.

Opened in 2021, Onomo brings a fresh, contemporary feel to Kampala. Pool, spa, restaurant with terrace, and well-appointed rooms with African artwork throughout. A popular choice with NGOs and international visitors.

All hotels listed are within about 1 hour away from our Mukono Campus. We recommend booking accommodation for the nights of Sunday 28 June through Wednesday 1 July. If you are taking a wildlife extension, your extension lodge accommodation will be arranged separately.

Airport

Entebbe International Airport (EBB). Transfer to Kampala takes 45 to 75 minutes depending on traffic. We will organize transport.

Visa

Most nationalities must apply online before travel. The application requires a passport scan, passport photo, and your Yellow Fever vaccination certificate. You must carry the physical yellow card to present at immigration on arrival. Cost is approximately USD 50. Apply at visa.immigration.go.ug.

Health

Yellow fever vaccination is required for entry and must be completed before departure. Anti-malarial medication is strongly recommended.

Currency

Ugandan Shilling (UGX). ATMs are available at the airport and in Kampala. A lot of restaurants also accept visa card.

Weather in June

Kampala in late June is dry season. Temperatures range from 20 to 28 degrees Celsius. Light layers for evenings recommended.

Connectivity

International eSIM is an option. Local SIM cards (Airtel, MTN) are available at the airport and are inexpensive. All recommended hotels have reliable wifi.

Transport

Uber and SafeBoda are widely used in Kampala. Private transfers will be be arranged throughout the program by us.

Time Zone

East Africa Time (EAT), UTC+3. Kampala is 1 hours ahead of Central Europe in summer.

What to Wear

Smart casual is appropriate for all programme days. The campus visit is a respectful occasion — modest dress is appreciated. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Power

Uganda uses Type G (UK-style) plugs at 240V/50Hz. Bring a universal adapter. Power cuts can occur — a small power bank is useful.

Medical

International Hospital Kampala (IHK) is the leading private hospital for international visitors.

Optional Wildlife Extensions

Uganda offers some of Africa's most remarkable wildlife experiences. Extensions start from Thursday 2 July for those who wish to continue after the programme.

Option A — Half Day

Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Thu 2 July

A boat trip on Lake Victoria just outside Kampala. Chimpanzees up close in their natural habitat. Back in Kampala in time for an evening departure.

Option B — 2 Days

Lake Mburo National Park

Thu 2 and Fri 3 July

The closest national park to Kampala, 3 to 4 hours by road. Game drives, a boat safari, and one of the few places in Uganda where you can explore on horseback.

Option C — 3 Days

Murchison Falls National Park

Thu 2 to Sat 4 July

Uganda's largest national park. Elephant, buffalo, giraffe, and lion, combined with a boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

Option D — 4 Days Minimum

Gorilla Tracking, Bwindi

From Thu 2 July

One of the rarest wildlife encounters on earth. Tracking mountain gorillas on foot through dense rainforest. Permits are limited and must be booked well in advance.

Option E — 3 Days

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Thu 2 to Sat 4 July

Famous for its tree-climbing lions and the Kazinga Channel boat cruise. Rich in hippo, elephant, and over 600 bird species. Can be combined with a Bwindi gorilla extension.

Option F — 2 Days

Jinja & the Source of the Nile

Thu 2 and Fri 3 July

Just 80 km from Kampala, Jinja sits at the point where the Nile begins its journey north. White-water rafting, kayaking, boat trips to the source, and a vibrant café culture make it a popular two-day escape.
