Haiti, Lac Azuei
CONTEXT
Formal education rates in Haiti are among the lowest. Nearly 40% of all adult Haitians are unable to read or write, with rural communities suffering the most. The Haitian government is unable to provide much support to public education. Therefore, it lacks quality and is too expensive for low-income families. Providing education, food, and health services to the children of Haiti is critical to empowering people in the Lac Azuei communities to break the cycle of poverty.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
In 2019, the community school Ecole Nouvelle de Lac Azuei (ENLA) was combined with another school from the neighboring village. This means, that the school receives an additional hundred students. Overall, this upcoming year the school is expected to have more than 400 students from kindergarten through 7th grade. In order to provide this big group of students with quality education, additional classrooms are urgently needed. In total, this project therefore contains the construction of four extra classrooms. While the whole school will benefit from this construction, the main beneficiaries are 74 kindergarten students who will primarily use these classrooms.
