Kenya, Mombasa

CONTEXT

Kenya faces several challenges in the educational sector; For instance, high drop-out rates, poor academic results, and inadequate learning facilities. In Likoni, outside of the city of Mombasa, school attendance is out of reach for many. This is not just because of the attendance fees, but also because of school distances as well as the family’s need for an income. These kids need education in whatever form they can get.

Likoni is an economically deprived area containing many families for whom HCC is the only school they can afford.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

Hope Children’s Centre has employed a trusted construction team for almost all of their building projects since 2010. To build the libraries, land has been purchased that is adjacent to the high school. With the realization of the project, Hope Children’s Centre has the objectives of:

  1. Provide opportunities for better education through access to textbooks, materials, and necessary literature according to the Kenyan curriculum to attract more children to enroll and continue higher learning.
  2. Provide the children with a quiet space needed to study and learn in an appropriate environment through equipping the libraries with the necessary furniture.
