Groundbreaker Talents offers young African women from financially constrained communities the opportunity to undergo an intensive one-year training program in software engineering. During this period, the participants live on the Groundbreaker IT campus in Uganda, fully immersing themselves in the training. This residential learning approach equips them with all the necessary skills to pursue entry-level positions in the IT sector and launch their careers in tech.
The scholarships enrich the tech sector with a diverse pool of young talent while providing a sustainable way out of poverty for young African women.
Through the mentorship program, employees from tech companies can become directly involved and guide their mentees along their journey. By fostering interactions between scholars and mentors, we encourage openness—one of the key pillars for increasing diversity in the tech industry.
I grew up in a family of five with two siblings. My parents didn’t live together but despite the instability, I learned the value of perseverance and hard work that shaped me into the resilient person I am today.
As I got older, my curiosity for tech turned into a passion, and I realized that I wanted to be a part of the tech industry, not just as an observer but as a creator. The Groundbreaker Talents program has given me the skills, confidence, and network to turn my dreams into reality. Before joining, I often felt like I didn’t belong in tech, but now I feel empowered to contribute and innovate in ways I never thought possible.
As a woman in tech, I aspire to be a full-stack developer and inspire other young girls, especially from underrepresented communities like mine, to pursue careers in STEM. I believe that diversity in tech leads to more inclusive solutions, and I’m determined to be a part of that change.
Growing up as the fourth of six siblings, my older siblings served as inspiring role models who always supported me. I believed that I could one day achieve my dreams, even though I often felt uncertain about how to get there.
I had a passion for tech but I lacked support and faced societal pressures to follow a more conventional path. Everything changed when a friend introduced me to the Groundbreaker Talents program which has become a catalyst for my growth. It has empowered me to dream bigger than I ever thought possible, transforming my perspective on what women can achieve in this industry.
As I continue on this journey, I aspire to break barriers and redefine what’s possible. I aim to lead projects that not only innovate but also prioritize inclusivity and sustainability. My dream is to mentor young girls, showing them that they, too, can thrive in this dynamic field and make their mark on the world.
As a young girl growing up in Uganda, I am the seventh of ten siblings. Although our resources were limited, our family shared an endless curiosity about the world.
For much of my childhood, technology felt like a distant, almost untouchable concept. When I first heard about the Groundbreaker Talents Program, I knew it would be a game-changer for me. Today, at 25, I proudly identify as a software engineer, passionate about collaboration, critical thinking, and creating solutions that impact real-world problems.
As a woman in tech, my aspiration is to inspire and support other women, particularly those from underrepresented communities like mine. Thanks to the Groundbreaker Talents Program, what once seemed like a distant dream is now my reality. This journey is just beginning, and I can’t wait to see where it leads me next.
Growing up in Kampala, Uganda and coming from a family of four siblings as the youngest, I always felt the need to make a difference. Back then, tech seemed so far from my reality.
I had always been drawn to creating solutions but didn’t realize tech could be the vehicle to do that. Groundbreaker provided the mentorship, resources, and community I needed to immerse myself fully in software development. I soon found myself fascinated by how much you could achieve by simply writing code. My whole perspective shifted. I now believe whatever I put my mind to I can achieve it.
My dream is to contribute to a future where more women feel empowered to enter tech fields, not just as participants but as leaders and innovators. Groundbreaker didn’t just give me a tech career; it gave me a mission to uplift others and build a more inclusive tech community.
I was born and raised in the central part of Uganda in a family of 12 children. From a young age, I was always curious and loved problem-solving, but I never really imagined myself in tech until much later in life.
The Groundbreaker Talents program has not only provided me with the soft and technical skills but also the confidence to pursue my dreams in technology. I am now more empowered and equipped to make a difference, especially as a woman in tech, and I look forward to contributing to the future of innovation.
As a woman in tech, my goal is to create platforms that promote tech inclusivity, build innovative solutions that address societal challenges, and continue growing in my career as a full-stack Software Engineer. I also look forward to engaging in mentorship, entrepreneurship, and leading impactful projects that inspire others to dream big.
